The Umi Way
Blending academic and co-curricular subjects to cater to every child’s individual style of learning.
Our Philosophy
At Umi we follow a . This is an approach to curriculum integration which blends and dissolves the boundaries between conventional subject matter and uses real-world themes to organise teaching and learning.
In Early childhood education, we implement this by blending academic and co-curricular subjects to help cater to individual styles of learning.
Inquiry-Based Learning
Inquiry-based learning supports a student’s drive to learn with their own curiosities and questions rather than an adult pushing facts and data towards them.
With this style of teaching and learning, children are encouraged to explore, dabble in the material, make their own theories, and share ideas with their teacher and fellow students.
Student Driven
Inquiry is taken in the direction of students’ thoughts and continues to evolve with each element of understanding and exploration.
Umi's Core Subjects
Early Math
Learning Math involves understanding, analysing, and hypothesising concepts. We teach counting through music, language, and outdoor play. Shapes are taught through art, and addition is done with tangible resources to leave a lasting memory.
Early Literacy
Art & Craft
Children work with various artistic mediums to offer new experiences. Teachers encourage students to flow with their thoughts when experimenting, keeping art student- driven and fostering deep concentration.
Music
Students experience rhythm, beats, and tempo. Singing, listening, and exploring instruments help develop language skills, memory, and coordination while nurturing creativity and self-expression.
Yoga at Umi
Designed to support physical, emotional, and mental development
in a calm way. Through simple poses and breathing, children build
strength, balance, and body awareness.
Theme Based Learning
Our themes are inspired by the three elements of nature that are intriguing to a young child. These divide our academic year into three terms.
The educator will address the monthly theme keeping in mind the age-appropriate developmental learning outcomes.
The School App
The parent community receives updated information about their student’s progress in school via the app. It is used strategically by the educators to post learning progress and events celebrated at school. Parents and educators collaborate and keep learning at the forefront while also making time for recording daily activities with the students.
